This is about the worst news a retooled Toronto Blue Jays team could have heard: for the first time since Paul Molitor was “young”, the Jays are Las Vegas favourites to win the World Series.
At 8-to-1, the Jays have a gambler’s direct line to the winner’s circle. They’re followed by the the Dodgers and Angels at 17-to-2, the Washington Nationals at 9-to-1, and the AL champion Detroit Tigers at 10-to-1.
Certainly, Toronto’s fan base expected its chances to go up. It expected ESPN and FOX to take an actual interest. Hell, maybe the playoffs were within reach and — if lucky — Joe Buck would call a play or two.
The actual World Series favourite?
Not the Toronto Blue Jays… it couldn’t be.
