Lockout life has taken a sudden turn south for Blue Jackets prospect Ryan Murray. The No. 2 overall pick in last year’s NHL Draft will undergo season-ending shoulder surgery in two or three weeks, rendering his year with Everett Silvertips over in the womb and his rookie year with Columbus more of a rehab project than a takeoff ramp.
Murray will obviously miss the 2012 World Junior Hockey Championship, which will be the biggest blow to Canadians. Murray’s a beast on the backend and he was the only non-NHLer on Canada’s roster at last summer’s World Championships.
Murray suffered a torn labrum while playing in Victoria against the Royals on November 16.
