My Poynter: Understanding Digital Journalism, Courtesy of the ‘New York Times’

Thank you for the New York Times and how well they understand just how valuable their own brand of journalism is.

“The New York Times is providing free, unlimited access to coverage of explosions in Boston on The New York Times web site and its mobile apps.”

That’s from their Facebook page, posted around 4 p.m. PST on Monday. The explosion is a tragedy, and it’s a good thing the Times is allowing all of us the privilege to read a few updates for free. FOR FREE.

If not, we’d have to just find out the same information from everyone else.

And, just in case you think I’m focusing on a pretty un-important angle of a story which much larger implications, I know I am.

But, also remember, the Times plugged its own profits first.
