After shooting his big ol’ 70 (even par, I guess), Tiger Woods offered up something very special: the normal.

Yes, that sounds like a stretch, or it sounds like we’re making news out of nothing, but maybe normal is exactly what Tiger needs, or what we need from him.

Come on, after everything that’s happened to him (and everything he’s done) the last couple years, and seeing as this kind of circus show, Buffalo Bill-style, 100 Year War-esque absurdity will not go away until he wins a Major, normal is just perfect right now.

We’ve seen him “calmly” flip out at questions posed to him over Hank Haney’s book (which was unfair to Tiger), we’ve seen Hank Haney write said book and then claim it wasn’t offside (which was unfair to Tiger), and we’ve seen the fallout from a suspected golf course length list of affairs that stretched over years and over Majors (which was unfair to everybody but Tiger).

Listen, maybe it’s odd or stupid, but seeing Tiger stand there and just calmly ask Tom Rinaldi’s questions after Round 2 at the U.S. Open, and seeing him smile when he talks about how tough his day was, and seeing him tied for the lead after two days at (what is to some people) the most important tournament in golf…

I kinda like it.
