ESPN’s First Take got into a debateoooobbbbbbbbviously – about the New Orleans most recent scandal (how many times will we have to update that?) involving the allegations that GM Mickey Loomis used a hearing device to “spy” on visiting NFL teams from 2002 to 2004.

Skip Bayless, Rob Parker, and Hugh Douglas spent most of the time debating whether having that device even gave them an advantage, but is that even the issue here? Isn’t it about the fact that something wrong was done?

Imagine this conversation with your girlfriend:

Guy: “Baby, I cheated on you.”
Girl: “Oh, well was the sex good?”
Guy: “No, it wasn’t very good.”
Girl: “Oh, well that’s okay.”

Now, to be fair to First Take, they weren’t condoning anything and they weren’t really trying to downplay the incident.

Still, rules are rules and the rules were broken. We know it’s not all fair in love and war. We know that for all the bounty talk, that the New Orleans Saints defense couldn’t injure Kirby if he was inflated and floating.

We know that football is complicated and that stealing signs and plays doesn’t really give you an advantage.

“Hey, Adrian Peterson is going to run left this time.”

Yea, but you still have to stop him.

Still… something wrong was done. If you want to settle the case, get rid of Mickey Loomis and move on in 2013. Done-zo.

After all, this apparently happened no sooner than seven years ago. Stick it in the closet and sit down for dinner.
