Jaromir Jagr makes his return to Pittsburgh tonight, for the first time as a Philadelphia Flyers. (Screenshot “courtesy” of TSN.ca)

They tell young people, “There’s no such thing as a stupid question” to encourage them to speak more in class and to not be afraid of the person next to them. But, that’s not true. There are stupid questions. And, of anybody, journalists should not be asking stupid questions. But…

Reporter: “What’s different about you playing in Pittsburgh now (as opposed to when you were a Penguin)?”
Jaromir Jagr: “I’m on a different team.”

Good on Jagr. That was a ridiculous question that only garnered one possible response – the obvious one.

Sure, Jagr’s relationship with Pittsburgh and his exit that took him to Washington (rival), New York (rival), Russia (rival with the U.S.A.) and Philly (RIVAL) was not as smooth and not as harmonious as Teemu Selanne’s exit from Winnipeg. That one ended with a near-tearful return to the Paris of the (Canadian) Prairies last week, but Jagr’s is different.

He seems to hold no grudges towards the city or its owner, Mario Lemieux. It’s nobody’s business but his, and the 39-year-old has accepted it like he’s accepted everything… with honesty.
