Looks like Cam Newton answered our question with his own question. No longer is it, “Who should win the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year (ROY)?” – because Newton ran for three TDs in a 38-19 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (and set the NFL’s single-season rushing TD record for a quarterback) while Andy Dalton got crushed 35-7 by Pittsburgh. Now, it’s, “Is Cam Newon the best rookie of all-time?”
We don’t believe this, but somebody will ask that. For our money, he’s still far behind Adrian Peterson (and several others), even though Newton’s record in his first season is baffling (in a good way) in its own right. But, without a team that can win games and sits 4-8 after a two-game win streak, Newton is too shallow a contender for that title.
(P.S. we still love you, Dalton.)
